• | Pseudomonas aeruginosa is usually considered as a nosocomial pathogen, but can also be community acquired. |
• | In case of Pseudomonas aeruginosa LVAD driveline infection, the bathroom at home must be considered as a source. |
• | Recommendations on measures to prevent infection in the home environment should be provided to patients at risk. |
Abstract |
We describe a patient with a left ventricular assist device (LVAD) infection by Pseudomonas aeruginosa acquired at home. The Pseudomonas from the driveline was similar to several surface cultures of the patient's home shower. This case illustrates the potential and importance of infection prevention measures at home.
