Epileptic seizures and vardenafil - 06/05/08
Epileptic seizures complicating treatment with selective type 5 phosphodiesterase inhibitors are rare (2 cases reported in the literature, both associated with sildenafil use). Case report: A previously non-epileptic 78 year old patient presented with a partial epileptic seizure following a second ingestion of 10mg of vardenafil. A brain MRI scan showed no pre-existing structural brain lesion.
The seizure could have been due to the drug exerting a direct epileptogenic effect or to some vascular complication of its use. Further studies are neeeded to elucidate the association of phosphodiesterase 5 inhibitors and epileptic seizures.
