This article will review the latest evidence about permanent contraception, discussing epidemiology, evidence for salpingectomy as a preferred method, timing of postpartum and interval, understanding of risk of regret, and continued barriers to access balanced against ongoing risks for coercion.

| Notes: This article will review the latest evidence about permanent contraception in patients with fallopian tubes. Additionally, the authors appreciate that not all people with fallopian tubes identify as female and that the term sterilization is negatively associated with coercive practices; however, when the original data or sources we are referencing use these terms, we may do so in this article. |
