Evidence-based Skin Antisepsis for Urologic Surgery: A Narrative Review - 13/11/25
, Gina M. BadalatoRésumé |
Surgical site infections complicate 2%-4% of surgical procedures performed annually in the United States and are associated with increased post-operative morbidity and mortality. Reducing the risk of surgical site infections through evidence-based strategies, including the use of appropriate pre-operative skin antisepsis, is therefore of critical importance. In this narrative review, we aim to review the major antiseptic skin agents used in urologic surgery. Specifically, this review offers an up-to-date evaluation of the evidence supporting optimal surgical antisepsis practices across urologic abdominal, transurethral, transvaginal, and prosthetic surgeries.
