The fire that devastated the Museu Nacional of Brazil in Rio de Janeiro in 2018 led to the loss of significant portions of its scientific collections, including the paleopalynology slide archive. This article documents the evolution of the paleopalynological collection, from its historical development to the catastrophic impact of the fire, and the subsequent efforts for recovery and reconstruction. The reconstitution process involved the donation of materials from partner institutions, the preparation of new slides, and the creation of a digital infrastructure enabling remote access and long-term preservation. The integration of outreach activities and public engagement highlights the broader cultural and educational significance of the collection. By presenting the strategies and collaborative networks mobilized after the disaster, this study contributes to ongoing discussions about the preservation of scientific heritage in contexts of institutional vulnerability.

L’incendie qui a dévasté en 2018 le Museu Nacional du Brésil, à Rio de Janeiro, a entraîné la perte d’une partie importante de ses collections scientifiques, y compris l’archive de lames de paléopalynologie. Cet article retrace l’évolution de la collection paléopalynologique, depuis son développement historique jusqu’à l’impact catastrophique de l’incendie, ainsi que les efforts entrepris pour sa récupération et sa reconstruction. Le processus de reconstitution a impliqué le don de matériel par des institutions partenaires, la préparation de nouvelles lames et la création d’une infrastructure numérique permettant l’accès à distance et la préservation à long terme. L’intégration d’activités de médiation scientifique et d’engagement du public souligne l’importance culturelle et éducative plus large de la collection. En présentant les stratégies et les réseaux de collaboration mobilisés après la catastrophe, cette étude contribue aux discussions en cours sur la préservation du patrimoine scientifique dans des contextes institutionnels vulnérables.
