, Zaina Inam, MD a, c, Jennifer Webb, MD, MSCE a, b, cRésumé |
Molecular testing can identify genetic variants and accurately predict both red blood cell and platelet antigens. Furthermore, these assays can process large number of samples with quick turnaround time, allowing the techniques to be used not only in patients but also in donors. By accurately identifying recipient and donor blood antigens, appropriately matched blood products can be issued, reducing the risk of alloimmunization. These techniques can also be applied to prenatal testing of cell free fetal DNA.
