• | -Biomimicry is a possibility, but will not necessary be the key to develop effective blood substitutes, research should seek to enhance physiological properties of blood, to enable novel therapeutic effects that were not possible with conventional transfusion. |
• | Introducing effective blood substitutes into clinical practice in low-income countries will help to reduce healthcare disparities by circumventing the unique challenges they face in meeting their blood transfusion demand. |
• | No single artificial product will completely replace human blood but rather a combination of different modalities that will help along with conventional blood transfusion to mitigate its inherent challenges. |
