Sex-Based Differences in Advanced Heart Failure - 25/03/26
Résumé |
Although women and men have similar lifetime risks and mortality related to heart failure (HF), women have a greater risk of developing heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) versus developing heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF). Women account for a lower percentage of the advanced HFrEF population, possibly due to their lower risk of developing HFrEF compared with HFpEF yet account for an even lower percentage (<25%) of recipients of left ventricular assist device (LVAD) or heart transplantation for reasons not completely characterized. LVAD and HT outcomes have improved in women with similar successful bridging to HT.
