Managing Long-Term Ambulation After Midfoot or Rearfoot Arthrodesis - 02/07/26
Résumé |
The “Step Diet” is a physician-designed activity management protocol for patients with foot pathology or prior reconstructive surgery who experience persistent pain from overuse. Rather than pursuing the mythologized 10,000 step daily goal—rooted in 1960s Japanese marketing, not medical evidence—patients track daily steps and record pain levels on a 1 to 10 scale over 4 weeks. A personalized safe step threshold is then identified, with two permitted “cheat days” weekly. This structured approach enables patients to budget around priorities, predict discomfort, and plan recovery periods. Clinical cases demonstrate significant symptom reduction and improved quality of life through sustained compliance.
