Perception and adherence of women to the use of artificial intelligence in the context of organized breast cancer screening in France
Conclusion |

Purpose |
The objective of this study was to evaluate the perception of women regarding artificial intelligence used in the context of breast cancer screening in France, with a focus on women's knowledge of these tools and the barriers to their participation in organized screening. Participation in organized screening is low (44% in 2024), hindered by apprehension (pain, fear) and skepticism. Artificial intelligence offers the potential for more accurate diagnosis. The goal was to assess French women's perception of artificial intelligence and the barriers to screening.
Material and method |
An online survey was conducted in June 2025 with 2000 women (aged 40 to 75 years old) in France, selected by quota sampling. The questionnaire covered screening behaviour, knowledge of artificial intelligence, and expectations.
Results |
Observed barriers to screening included the lack of awareness (27%), pain (21%), and fear of the result (15%). Medical recommendation is crucial for adherence. Only 24% of the women surveyed knew artificial intelligence applications. Nearly 80% anticipated positive effects on detection or accuracy, and 60% viewed artificial intelligence as an incentive argument for screening. Seventy-eight percent were in favour of using artificial intelligence for the analysis of their mammogram. The main fear (43%) was the confidentiality of medical data.
Conclusion |
Obstacles to screening were a matter of individual perception and sometimes psychological. The enthusiasm for artificial intelligence is strong among women, perceiving it as a guarantee of performance, which makes it a catalyst for increasing participation.
