Résumé

Primary care providers are uniquely positioned to help patients respond to the increasing health impacts of environmental degradation and climate change. We identify 10 key “planetary determinants of health,” outline environmental harms of current primary care practices and present opportunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of conventional diagnostics, therapeutics, and chronic disease management. We also address the limited capabilities of existing primary care systems to meet these health challenges by proposing integrated wellness-based conceptual and pragmatic frameworks that prioritize prevention, resilience, and lifestyle adaptation: integrative medicine, whole person health, and planetary health .
