Somewhere between algorithm and bedside lies a gap that burn research is working to bridge. Artificial intelligence (AI) has been applied with great creativity across the continuum of burn care, from wound depth assessment, fluid resuscitation, outcome prediction, scar evaluation, and performance is, in aggregate, encouraging. This article summarizes the utility of emerging AI studies across some of the most subjectively guided aspects of burn care and is intended to orient readers to frequently reported performance metrics while offering practical guidance for appraising future studies whose reports may appear impressively, and sometimes misleadingly, high.
