One component of the sterilization process is the biologic testing of sterilizers. Increased reports of biologic failures during flash sterilization provided an opportunity for improvement. This article identifies the cause of the biologic failures seen during flash sterilization to reduce the risks of endemic and epidemic infections in patients and to standardize the sterilization process throughout the surgical services.
