Immunosuppressive Therapy for Heart Failure - 18/08/11

Immunosuppressive drugs have been used for therapy of many immunologic diseases. Using these agents for treatment of myocarditis is still open to question. Moreover, despite many efforts to understand the disease, its natural history and detection remain to be elucidated. Immunosuppression should not be used as a standard therapy in this cohort of patients. In patients with chronic heart failure and immunohistologically proved chronic inflammatory response in biopsy specimens, however, such therapy may be beneficial.
