Gastric piercing - 19/08/11
| Commentary The 2 most common accidentally swallowed sharp objects are pins and toothpicks. This pin appears to be a glass-, plastic-, or pearl-headed quilting, or even corsage pin, and the presence of the head is fortunate because it permits easier removal than does a common pin. Most important before attempting removal of any foreign body, however, is to get a similar or identical object and practice so that little is left to chance. As for the patient, I would caution her to use a conventional pincushion for storage of these sharp objects. Lawrence J. Brandt, MD Associate Editor of Focal Points |
