Complex Deliveries in Obstetrics - 20/08/11

Résumé |
There are situations in which competing goals for outcomes between the mother and the fetus compromise the mother to save the baby or generate permanent morbidity to the child to protect the mother's life. Abnormalities of placentation can cause significant maternal, fetal, and neonatal morbidity and mortality. Both ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging help in assessing the degree and location of placental invasion and in planning delivery. This article discusses 2 perinatal conditions that illustrate the complexity of the maternal and fetal relationship at delivery and the importance of multidisciplinary cooperation in enhancing successful outcomes for both mother and baby.
