KEY TERMS AND DEFINITIONS
Hydrops Tubae Profluens. : A symptom complex of intermittent, watery, or serosanguinous vaginal discharge; crampy pain; and an adnexal mass that may disappear after the pain is noted. This complex occasionally occurs in patients with tubal carcinoma, but most patients do not have this complex.
Primary Tubal Carcinoma. : An adenocarcinoma usually of papillary serous variety arising within the lumen of the oviduct. A transition from nonneoplastic to malignant tubal epithelium must be demonstrated to confirm the diagnosis.
Tubal Carcinoma Staging Summary. : Stage 1: Confined to the tubesStage 2: Spread to the ovaries, uterus, or other pelvic tissuesStage 3: Intraperitoneal spread or involvement of retroperitoneal nodesStage 4: Metastases to liver parenchyma, outside the peritoneum, or malignant pleural effusion
