Abstract |
Concussions in children and adolescents are a common presenting complaint seen in all emergency departments. Concussions range from a brief period of neural dysfunction to a prolonged period of unconsciousness with retrograde amnesia. It is imperative that the emergency physician be familiar with the appropriate assessment of the child or adolescent who has sustained a concussion, methods for grading their severity, current acute management, and recommendations for returning to activity.
