The newest therapies for inflammatory skin diseases are the topical immunomodulators, tacrolimus, and pimecrolimus. Antiviral effects of topical imiquimod, another immune response modifier, are well-known, and its antitumor effects are being studied. Novel treatments for onychomycosis, such as ciclopirox nail lacquer are available, but non-dermatophyte mold infections still present a therapeutic challenge. Skin substitutes and growth factors for the treatment of acute and chronic wounds are largely effective and widely available.
