Millions of women are unable to take hormone replacement therapy (HRT) because of risk factors, and millions more refuse it for a variety of concerns. Physicians caring for these women need to be able to design a treatment plan that will manage the symptoms of menopause and ameliorate the effects of chronic diseases. This article discusses a wide variety of interventions for heart disease, osteoporosis, urinary incontinence, hot flashes, vaginal dryness, and sexual dysfunction. Nonhormonal and complementary approaches are covered.
