Amputation surgery is an important part of the treatment for severe limb disorders. The decision-making process must be done thoughtfully, with the clinician remembering that blood flow is not the only issue. The decision to perform either a partial foot amputation or a more proximal level amputation is multifactorial, and adherence to good surgical principles, proven techniques, and gentle soft tissue handling can have an affect on long-range outcomes.
