The anatomy of the inguinal region was the stuff of nightmare to physicians as medical students preparing for final examinations. With a Jabberwocky text to guide them, they slipped through the superficial ring into a four-dimensional tunnel whose walls were never what they seemed, hung with eponymous labels that changed for no apparent reason as they fell deeper and deeper. The anatomy demonstrator, a white rabbit in his labcoat, pointed vaguely here to the pectineal ligament of Cooper, there to the lacunar ligament of Gimbernat, or waved both paws in different directions as he named the transversalis fascia. Where did one begin, another end? Were they really separate and distinct structures? Are they?
