POSTERIOR CRUCIATE LIGAMENT INJURIES - 08/09/11

Medical knowledge concerning the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) injured knee has lagged behind that of the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injured knee. Interest in the PCL has increased in recent years and the PCL is now a major focus of Orthopedic sports medicine research. Significant debate continues over whether or not the PCL needs to be reconstructed and if the reconstruction of the injured PCL results in improved functional outcome of the knee. There are several different techniques of reconstruction, each having their own merits, but none have been accepted as the “gold standard” technique of reconstruction.
