PANCREATIC IMAGING : New Modalities - 08/09/11

Cross-sectional imaging has become the cornerstone for primary and initial evaluation of most patients with suspected pancreatic disease. Significant advances in pancreatic imaging have occurred, including the development of helical computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and MR cholangiopancreatography (MRCP), endoscopic and intraductal pancreatic sonography, and radionuclide scintigraphy with indium 111 (111In) octreotide and positron-emission tomography (PET). This article discusses the techniques and applications of these new modalities.
