The most common neurosurgical emergency requiring anesthetic management involves the perioperative care of the patient with traumatic brain injury. Other intracranial disasters such as intraoperative rupture of cerebral aneurysm, cerebral hemorrhage/swelling following arteriovenous malformation (AVM) resection may occur unexpectedly under elective circumstances.
