Upper Extremity Venous Doppler - 01/10/11
Résumé |
Ultrasonography is a noninvasive and reliable method for examining the upper extremity (UE) venous system, particularly with respect to the diagnosis or exclusion of thrombus in symptomatic patients. To accurately exclude the presence of deep vein thrombosis (DVT), the UE ultrasound examination requires knowledge of standard venous anatomy, proper b-mode imaging and Doppler technique, and recognition of normal and abnormal Doppler waveforms. The ultrasound examination of the UE veins for DVT relies on the same basic principles as the lower extremity venous examination: imaging and Doppler, with compression (to a lesser degree) and augmentation.
