Screening breast ultrasonography is becoming more widespread, and recent legislation in several states has led to supplemental screening for women with dense breasts on mammography. Targeted or diagnostic ultrasonography is invaluable in the workup of mammographic and magnetic resonance imaging findings. Ultrasound-guided interventions such as preoperative needle localizations and biopsies are in the mainstream of breast imaging.
