Concealed Conduction and Allied Concepts - 23/08/14

Concealed conduction (CC) occurs when an impulse penetrates a part of the conduction system but fails to complete its course. This partial penetration is untraceable on the surface ECG, so CC is recognizable only by its influence on subsequent impulses. Any cardiac electrical activities not directly detectable on the surface ECG could be considered as concealed. This article highlights various electrophysiologic (EP) concepts and phenomena that may represent the aftermath of CC or be linked to its genesis. EP characteristics and behavior of the atrioventricular conduction system relevant to CC are outlined, and the consequences of CC discussed.
