Foot and ankle specialists treat an array of conditions related to the foot, ankle, and related structures of the leg. Their area of expertise may encompass many clinical realms, such as wound care, sports medicine, diabetic care, surgery, and pediatrics. Human amniotic membrane composed of both amnion and chorion has been identified as a potent facilitator of tissue repair in a variety of clinical situations. This article examines the use and effectiveness of amniotic membrane in the clinical setting for the treatment of distal extremity disorders.
