Whenever various obstacles stand seriously in the way of the study of the arts and sciences and keep them from being learned accurately and applied advantageously in practice, I think a great deal of damage is done. I think also that great harm is caused by too wide a separation of the disciplines which work toward the perfection of each individual art. The result is that men who have set the art before themselves as a goal, take up one part only.
