Peripheral neuropathy causes multiple impairment affecting the limbs. These impairments translate into functional deficits involving mobility, skin integrity, and prehension. An appropriate orthosis may improve or correct these deficits. Consideration must be given to the patient’s goals, concomitant medical conditions, severity of the functional deficit, and potential cosmesis and comfort of orthotic options. This article reviews orthotic prescription considerations for specific lower and upper extremity disorders related to peripheral neuropathy.
