CONTEMPORARY IMAGING OF ATHLETIC INJURIES - 10/09/11

The number of individuals involved in athletic activities has increased dramatically over the past decade. There has been a commensurate increase in the incidence of sports-related injuries. Although techniques of physical examination have changed little during this time, the clinician is now faced with an array of new imaging studies to evaluate these injuries. Radiography and plain film arthrography still have a place in the contemporary diagnostic armamentarium, but newer methods, like MR imaging, now have a pre-eminent role. This article presents an overview of the various imaging techniques that are available for the evaluation of the injured athlete.
