The conjunctiva is the mucous membrane, which covers the biggest part of the ocular surface (about 16 mm2). It plays a particularly important role in maintaining corneal homeostasis by ensuring the role of an immune system and the maintenance of a lacrymal film of high quality in order to prevent ocular infections and dessiccation phenomena. This complex and fragile tissue can be the site of numerous ocular or general pathologies which can result in different modifications, often fibrous, therefore compromising the good rotation of the globe or the corneal limpidity.
