The captopril-hydrochlorothiazide-ibuprofen combination can lead to acute renal failure (ARF), clinically manifested by edema, nausea and vomiting, fatigue and confusion. Spasms and coma may also occur in the absence of emergency care. The dispensing pharmacist has an indispensable role to play in preventing this interaction, referring patients with ARI symptoms and raising awareness among those being treated with non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
