Ascending colonic variceal bleeding - 17/08/11
| Commentary Colon varices are part of the spectrum of portal colopathy, and, as this case shows, bleeding in this entity can be quite profound. This case is a wonderful example of how combined disciplines (interventional radiology [IR] and gastroenterology [G]) managed the problem in a cooperative way by using the many complementary techniques for refractory GI bleeding: TIPS (IR), cyanoacrylate glue (G), and embolization (IR). This case was pursued remis velisque, ie, in the best way possible (literally, with oars and sails). Lawrence J. Brandt, MD Associate Editor of Focal Points |
