Oxygen free-radicals and other toxic metabolites of oxygen have been implicated in a number of disease processes. In this article, three objectives are addressed:
1 | To review the rationale for antioxidant therapy in organ injury after sepsis and other inflammatory states; |
2 | To overview the experimental data suggesting potential efficacy for antioxidant therapy; |
3 | To review clinical data regarding the use of antioxidants in preventing or minimizing organ injury. |
