This article addresses communication between Emergency physicians, patients, nursing and medical staff colleagues. Each relationship presents its own potential for ongoing communication dynamics, which may include conflict and misunderstanding. The article identifies and suggests strategies for resolving possible conflicts and roadblocks to successful communication, to improve the successful practice of emergency medicine. Appreciating alternative viewpoints and a willingness to adapt are prerequisites for managing interpersonal conflict.
