Despite advances in the medical management and endocrine diagnosis of pituitary disorders, surgery remains one of the most effective ways of dealing with pituitary adenomas and other lesions that affect the sella turcica and disturb normal pituitary function. This article reviews the authors' experience with the surgical management of more than 3000 patients with pituitary disease (Table 1 and Table 2 and outlines the current indications for and results of surgical management of pituitary tumors.
