It is accepted that media, such as television, video games, music, and other visual media, permeate our lives in one form or another. Many media researchers refer to the television as our “cultural storyteller,” occupying the single biggest chunk of wake time in American children's lives. This article acknowledges the media as useful tools to educate and socialize our society; however, extensive research supports the notorious and insidious effects of the media that are manifested in our daily lives as aggressive behaviors, fear, and desensitization to violence. The latest research is reviewed to look at the cumulative effects of violence most commonly found in the changes of television programming and infer that similar effects are implicated throughout the rapid development of other media.
