Si l’orthoptiste connaît bien la vision dans ses trois fonctions (sociale, cognitive et motrice) il ne peut ignorer les nombreux travaux de recherche qui présentent la proprioception non seulement comme un sens à part entière, mais comme un sens premier à partir duquel nous pouvons interpréter les autres sens. Ainsi, vision et proprioception entretiennent une relation privilégiée, créant notre sensation d’habiter un corps et nous permettant à tout instant d’interagir avec le monde qui nous entoure.

Although orthoptists know sight well in its three functions (social, cognitive and motor), they cannot ignore the many research works that present proprioception not only as a sense in it self but also as a primary sense from which we can interpret the other senses. Hence, sight and proprioception maintain a privileged relationship, creating our feeling of living in a body and allowing us at all times to interact with the world that surrounds us.
