This paper presents three types of school and career counseling interviews: the “accompanying” interview (adapted from the job counseling interview by Lecomte and Tremblay), the activity analysis interview (adapted from the “explanatory interview” by Vermersch) and the “help with decision making” interview (inspired by the “practical guide for making decisions” by Wheeler and Janis). These interviews differ as regards the theoretical models they refer to (psychological processes in counseling for the “accompanying” interview, Piaget theory for the “activity analysis” interview and a prescriptive model for the “help with decision making” interview). In practice, however, these types of interviews can be used together, in so much as the “accompanying” interview constitutes a general approach, which can be built on by the other two.
